The Office of Safety Training Operations (HS-52) supports the mission of the National Training Center (NTC) by providing competency-based safety training for professionals within the Department necessary to maintain the technical qualifications and professional skill base. Mission The mission of the Office of Safety Training Operations (HS-52) is to develop and deliver safety training courses to ensure the technical proficiency necessary to maintain a qualified workforce within the Department of Energy (DOE)/National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA). HS-52 assists in maintaining the proficiency of the DOE/NNSA safety personnel through standardized safety training, education, and professional development services at the National Training Center.

Functions Provides and manages subject matter expertise for the development and review of DOE safety training and awareness courses. Develops and delivers safety-related training for the DOE complex, establishes core training standards, and promotes the professional development of DOE safety professionals. Represents the Department in government-wide forums on building, recruiting, developing and retaining a highly qualified safety professional workforce. Analyzes and develops implementation strategies and plans for career development of safety human capital assets DOE-wide. Supports the essential competencies outlined in the Functional Area Qualification Standards. Coordinates with the Federal Technical Capabilities Program and assures that program requirements are incorporated into the design and delivery of NTC safety training curriculum. Establishes and maintains a clearinghouse that takes advantage of existing training available through its partner institutions. Partners with DOE/NNSA sites and various training organizations with training capabilities that meet NTC programmatic training needs.
