Mission and Functions
Mission
The Office of Security Training conducts on-going job analysis, and develops and delivers training
in all aspects of security required for the protection of Departmental and NNSA critical assets,
including facilities, equipment, materials and information. The Office maintains the proficiency
and competency of Department and National Nuclear Security Administration security personnel
through standardized nuclear security training, education, and professional development services
at the Department's National Training Center (NTC).
Functions
- Provides and manages subject matter expertise for the development and review of training and awareness courses for security.
- Develops and provides security-related training for the Department, establishes core training standards, and promotes the professional development of DOE security professionals.
- Represents the Department in government-wide forums on building, recruiting, developing and retaining a highly qualified security workforce.
- Analyzes and develops implementation strategies and plans for recruitment, retention, and career development of security human capital assets DOE-wide.
- Manages the Foreign Interactions Training Academy (FITA) and the Counterintelligence Training Academy (CITA) and conducts training programs to facilitate DOE senior management and working level awareness and effective application of policies, procedures, and requirements relating to foreign visits and counterintelligence concerns.
- Provides specified training and support services to other Federal, state and local government organizations on a space available basis.
- Represents the Department on the interagency Federal Law Enforcement Accreditation Board and works with other standard-setting organizations, such as the American Council on Education, to obtain and maintain certification and accreditation for NTC courses.
