"Union Safety Representative"
Fluor Hanford
The M&I Contractor (FH) in concert with the local union (HAMTC) and the Operations Office (RL) has established a union safety position within each company in the PHMC. These HAMTC Safety Reps, as they are called have been instrumental in reducing the number of formal safety concerns by working issues to resolution at the lowest possible level. They have been very effective at the worker level with sorting safety concerns from union issues and helping develop an improved appreciation for safety.
The HAMTC Safety Reps have been empowered to interact at all levels within the PHMC and frequently work issues up the chain to the president's level at the various contractor companies. The seven Reps handled just over one thousand concerns in 1998 with an estimated cost avoidance of over three million dollars.
