ENFORCEMENT / OVERSIGHT
Documents supporting the overall improvement in DOE's nuclear safety, worker safety and health, and security programs through management and implementation of the DOE statutorily required enforcement programs. Types of documents include: Press Releases; Guidance and Interpretations; Program Reviews; Reports, and Training.

 

ENVIRONMENT
The Office of Environment works proactively with DOE headquarters and field offices to foster continuous improvement and shape behavior in nuclear safety and environmental protection before incidents occur. It also serves as a corporate technical assistance, coordination, and integration resource to support line organizations in the resolution of nuclear safety and environmental issues and management concerns, as well as provide high-quality, customer-oriented assistance that enables improved DOE program and field implementation of nuclear safety and environmental protection.

 

HEALTH
The Office of Health establishes worker safety and health requirements and expectations for the Department to ensure protection of workers from the hazards associated with Department operations. The Office conducts health studies to determine worker and public health effects from exposure to hazardous materials associated with Department operations and supports international health studies and programs. It implements medical surveillance and screening programs for current and former workers and supports the Department of Labor in the implementation of the Energy Employees Occupational Illness Compensation Program Act (EEOICPA). Additionally, the Office provides assistance to Headquarters and field elements in implementation of policy and resolving worker safety and health issues.

HSPD-12
HSPD-12 directs the implementation of a new standardized badging process, which is designed to enhance security, reduce identity fraud, and protect personal privacy by establishing a mandatory, Government-wide standard for secure and reliable forms of identification issued by the Federal Government to its employees, contractors, and other classes of individuals.

HSS OUTREACH and COMMUNICATIONS
The HSS Outreach and Collaboration efforts consists of three programs - Foucs Group, Visiting Speaker, and Organizational Sustainability pilot studies.

 

NATIONAL TRAINING CENTER (NTC)
Located in Albuquerque, New Mexico on Kirtland AFB, the mission of the NTC is to provide DOE Safety and Security personnel with quality training in support of professional development. The NTC will effectively and efficiently develop, deliver, and evaluate DOE Safety and Security training. The NTC will continue to focus on identifying and meeting the Department's training needs and forming partnerships to improve its operational effectiveness.

 

NUCLEAR SAFETY
The Office of Nuclear Safety develops DOE-wide nuclear safety policies and assist the DOE site offices and their contractors in carrying out these policies to protect the public and the DOE community.

 

QUALITY ASSURANCE
DOE has established Quality Policy, Principles and Value Added Requirement Attributes that apply to all work and are focused on performance, customer expectations, and improvement. When properly implemented, the principles and requirements form a management system to plan, perform, assess, and improve work. The Department's commitment to environment, safety, and health also relies upon work being conducted within an effective management system.

 

SAFETY
Safety documents address topics such as Accident Investigations, Accident/Incident Reporting System, the Analytical Services Program, Behavior-Based Safety/Human Performance, Corrective Action Management Program, Federal Occupational Safety and Health, Laboratory Accreditation Program, as well as documents on covering risk reduction, improvement of efficiency, and enhanced cost-effectiveness of DOE processes and operations. Safety document also address former and current worker safety activities.

 
SECURITY
The Office of Security Policy develops and promulgates safeguards and security policy governing the protection of National Security and other critical assets entrusted to the Department and manages DOE-wide activities for foreign national visits and assignments and determinations of foreign ownership, control, or influence. The Office of Security Technology and Assistance provides security expertise to assist field elements in planning site protection strategies and by coordinating with domestic authorities to provide safeguards and security technical assistance, technical systems support, and technology development and deployment opportunities.
